Colorado Colorectal Screening Program (CCSP)

The Colorado Colorectal Screening Program, which began in 2006, is administered by the University of Colorado Comprehensive Cancer Center. It is funded by the Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease and Pulmonary Disease Grants Program at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Program Goal: The goal of this program is to provide endoscopic colorectal screening services to medically underserved Coloradoans statewide, and to increase the awareness and demand for colorectal screening for all Coloradoans.

Program Information: The program provides endoscopic (sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and double contrast barium enema) colorectal screening services to medically underserved Coloradoans. More than 50 sites provide these services through cooperative efforts of multiple statewide providers.

These exams are provided free of charge for individuals who:

  • are aged 50yrs and older (average risk) or under 50yrs at elevated risk for colorectal cancer (personal or family history)
  • have a limited income (less than 250% FPL)
  • have no health insurance, or have an insurance plan that does not cover ANY costs for endoscopic colorectal screening
  • are lawfully present in Colorado
  • are a member of one of the primary care partner clinics
  • are eligible for screening according to the American Cancer Society Guidelines
